Job: Senior Mainframe Developer
Location: Raleigh, NC
The Senior Mainframe Developer will support several mission-critical systems and processes, providing technical expertise for ongoing interface operations, inquiry-only applications, the Child Placement and Payment System (CPPS), and Central Registry applications for the Child Welfare program.
Responsibilities:
Lead data conversion efforts and implement application enhancements based on evolving business needs.
Diagnose and resolve application issues and provide production support.
Work with technologies such as CICS, COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, stored procedures, and other mainframe tools.
Perform senior-level business and systems analysis, modeling and design, and programming using COBOL, CICS, and DB2.
Participate in effort estimation, consulting, and planning for system modifications and enhancements.
Monitor technical activities to ensure alignment with schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
Provide regular status updates, time reporting, and ensure quality assurance and compliance with organizational standards.
Be available for on-call support for nightly batch processes, including weekdays and weekends.
Required Skills:
Experience in software development and debugging using mainframe technologies such as COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, TSO, and VSAM.
Hands-on experience in programming using DB2 (Z/OS), DB2 SQL, and stored procedures.
Experience with source code management tools like Endevor.
Proficiency with QMF, SPUFI, and FILEAID/CA tools.
Strong skills in debugging COBOL/DB2 application code using tools such as XPEDITOR or CA-Intertest.
Experience with X/PTR (reporting tool).
Familiarity with Zeke or similar job scheduler tools.
Experience with structured system development methodologies such as Agile or Waterfall.
Ability to understand and gather business requirements, review specifications, develop test cases, and perform unit/system testing.
Excellent written and presentation skills using Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Ability to build strong working relationships and partnerships with clients.
Ability to translate and communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical users.
Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
Willingness to participate in on-call support for nightly batch processes.
Experience with CA-Easytrieve/Plus.
