Overview

The Assistant Chief Test Engineer (ACTE), Non-Propulsion Electronic Systems (NPES) is responsible for the day to day NPES test activities and reports to the NPES Chief Test Engineer. Specific duties of the NPES ACTE vary by project type. Some of the NPES ACTE responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee project cost and performance data
  • Assist the CTE with management of project schedules
  • Supervise the daily tasking of hourly and salary personnel assigned to their project
  • Report status and concerns to the CTE
  • Supervise and conduct effective shift turnovers
  • Interface with Engineering and Government Test Teams to coordinate test program activities
  • Verify retest requirements are properly identified and accomplished as required
  • Document and track issues with tests and test execution
  • Perform Test Procedure review for completeness and accuracy
  • Directly supervise or lead tests in their area of expertise
  • Actively support process improvement initiatives
  • Supervise / control NPES test activities during Sea Trials

Qualifications

Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of mechanical/electrical/trades supervisory experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • The ability to access all areas of the ship including confined spaces
  • Previous experience with the implementation of hazardous energy safety controls
  • Previous experience with and ability to execute to NAVSEA

Preferred:
  • Four to Ten years of experience or equivalent related experience with the NPES test program and knowledge in the operation of Navigation, SONAR, Combat and Weapons, Local Area Networks, Ship Control, Towed Array Systems, Integrated Communication System, Circuit D, ICCP, and various auxiliary systems
  • Current qualification as an Electric Boat NPES, Shift Test Director
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Candidates who possess experience with Electric Boat policies and procedures, work tracking systems that apply to Test Directorate processes

  • Candidates should possess excellent personal and personnel management skills.
  • Must be capable of working in a team environment and be able to demonstrate highly effective communication skills.
  • Excellent task management and technical abilities to coordinate and direct integrated test evolutions.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with the requirements of NAVSEA 6010, re-entry control, and safety tagout procedures and processes.
  • Excellent computer skills including: EWP, Artemis, Microsoft Office, ATA, Cornerstone.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess detailed knowledge of Planning, Construction, and Test activities.
