Overview
COLUMBIA Integrated Power Systems (IPS) Engineering has an opening for an engineer to support design, test, shipboard integration, analysis, and system testing of the COLUMBIA Class Main Propulsion Motor Drives (MPDs). The D489 MPD team responsibilities include MPD design development/redesign efforts, qualification testing, and analysis for all systems within the component including control systems, power electronics, electromagnetics. Additionally, the team has a strong focus on driving the supplier deliverables, test procedures, test reports, and design to meet all applicable requirements without deviation while identifying deficiencies in the specification to apply lessons learned to future electric propulsion plant submarine topologies. Engineers in the group will assist in MPD shipboard integration at Electric Boat manufacturing facilities and test support at the IPS Compatibility Test Facility (CTF) in Philadelphia, PA.

Responsibilities: The engineer hired for this position will be expected to:
- Manage supplier MPD software design and redesign efforts
- Verify control system design compliance with specifications and system requirements
- Support testing and troubleshooting for MPDs at the IPS CTF and supplier facility
- Serve as a technical mentor and reviewer for internal technical products
- Interface with technical and management personnel at NAVSEA, NNL, NSWC, and vendors
- Enforce technical requirements on vendors
- Support future software improvement development and implementation
- Advisor to management
Qualifications
Requirements:
- BS or MS engineering degree with technical background (Software, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, etc.)
- 5-15 years of relevant engineering experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Experience using Microsoft products
- Ability to occasionally travel to remote facilities within the United States (Philadelphia, PA; Milwaukee, WI; Washington, D.C., etc.)
Preferred:
- Experience working with government customers
- Multi-disciplinary systems engineering experience in complex systems based products
- Experience in control systems, power electronics, variable speed motor drives, software configuration management (JIRA)
- Experience using MATLAB and/or Simulink
