Industrial Design Engineer Autonomous Vehicle Systems
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Design Engineer to join a cross-functional team focused on delivering advanced hardware experiences for next-generation autonomous vehicle systems. This role sits at the intersection of industrial design, mechanical engineering, and studio development, ensuring that form, function, and manufacturability are balanced from concept through production. The Industrial Design Engineer will collaborate with designers, visualization specialists, studio engineers, and hardware teams to develop innovative physical experiences that support safety, usability, and visual identity. This role is hands-on and highly collaborative, ideal for someone who understands both the emotional impact of design and the constraints of complex vehicle integration.
Scope:
Support the development of ID concepts by providing technical input on feasibility, assembly, and DFM/DFA considerations.
Translate design concepts into preliminary CAD packages and collaborate on A-surface and B-surface integration with engineering and studio teams.
Partner with studio engineering to ensure design intent is preserved across physical builds, digital surfacing, and prototyping.
Work with visualization and CMF teams to ensure materials, colors, and finishes are compatible with part designs and tolerances.
Provide detailed feedback during prototype builds, supplier reviews, and design checkpoints.
Assist in preparation of design documentation, including 2D/3D specs, material callouts, and reference boards.
Coordinate with mechanical engineers, HMI/UX, and autonomy system teams to align on envelope constraints and safety-critical requirements.
Required:
4+ years of experience in industrial design engineering, hardware integration, or similar field.
Strong understanding of CAD modeling for both form and function (e.g., Alias, Rhino, Catia, or NX).
Experience working with Class-A surfacing teams and translating design intent to production.
Knowledge of automotive, mobility, or consumer hardware development processes.
Proven ability to navigate early-phase ambiguity and contribute to fast-paced iteration cycles.
Strong collaboration skills with both designers and engineers.
Pluses:
Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or mobility hardware.
Familiarity with DFM, tooling constraints, and material behaviors in production environments.
Hands-on prototyping skills or model shop experience.
Experience with CMF integration and supporting visualization teams.
Background in usability, HMI, or occupant experience within vehicles.
Estimated Min Rate: $60.00
Estimated Max Rate: $70.00
Note: Any pay ranges displayed are estimations. Actual pay is determined by an applicant's experience, technical expertise, and other qualifications as listed in the job description. All qualified applicants are welcome to apply.
