The SAP Basis Manager is a hands-on managerial role with global responsibilities for the availability, performance and maintenance of mission critical applications. This individual will be responsible for collaborating with Infrastructure, Security and Applications teams to proactively ensure applications are sized appropriately, secure and in a supported state according to regular maintenance cycles.
The SAP Basis Manager is to maintain overall application performance and system stability while supporting business initiatives for Application Lifecycle Management such as installations and patching, refreshes and landscape configuration.
Role requires 15% travel.
Job Dimensions & Scope
- Lead and develop existing team of 14 SAP technical delivery specialists supporting plants/regions and several applications
- Management and Delivery of Customer Service Level Agreements.
- Travel: 15% or as required, predominantly within EMEA

Principal Accountabilities
- Ensure the application portfolio operates matching the business operational schedules
- Meet agreed SLA’s for all application areas
- Support the implementation of the any SAP related projects
- Resource Capacity planning including communication of constraints, alternative resource options, priorities and expected delivery dates of developments to business and Demand Managers / Business Relationship Managers
- Manage any conflicts and escalations within area of responsibility
- Oversee third party service providers, when required.
- Participate in developing standard SAP practices across the business. Ensure a high level of simplification and convergence across the different SAP systems
- Build stakeholder networks to ensure that the delivery team organisation is recognized as strategic business partner. Software release management including developments and patches
- Participate in strategic applications long and short-term strategy development
- Lead, mentor, and manage staff to optimize performance through clear and effective communication to create a positive team environment.
- Assess technical skills, identify training needs and opportunities, and ensure that required materials and tools are available for direct reports to perform their job responsibilities.
- Responsible for ensuring the delivery of projects and change within the relevant application area modules. Actively communicating project stat issues and ensure that business needs are understood and met.
- Collaborate with the IT demand managers.
- Create estimates for future projects and define capacity needs
- Enforce policies and procedures to continuously improve the delivery of the SAP and connected solutions and to be compliant with agreed policies such as SOX
- Managing and drive the SAP systems release process.
- Management of metrics related to projects, application development and incident resolution
Major Challenges & Complexities
- Complex business environment, i.e. with regular changes to the scope (Mergers & Acquisitions), different stakeholder goals, global and local approaches
- Global / Regional Distributed team with very different skill sets and customer culture / approach
- Multi-tasking and setting priorities, i.e. ensuring the priorities are aligned and respected across the Global/Regional/BU/plants
Qualifications/Requirements
- 7+ years’ experience in IT or equivalent with supervisory, project management, consulting, and business process reengineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of the systems development life cycle.(SDLC)
- Business process understanding
- Ability to think strategically
- Relationship building with all levels of stakeholders
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Effective team builder
- Written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate technical issues with both technical and non-technical people
- Detail oriented, able to think ‘big picture’ and understand the levers that impact a business.

- Accountable for delivering projects on time
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline.
- Fluent English. German language would be an advantage
- Experienced in large SAP installations on premise and in cloud

Salary/ Rate: $50-$60/hour (depends on experience level). This is a contract position with candidates expected to work 40 hours/ week.
