Data Migration Lead (Strategic Leadership Role)
Contract | 6+ Months | Primarily Remote
We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Lead to provide strategic direction, governance, and oversight for a major HCM data migration initiative involving transitions from legacy on-premise systems into SuccessFactors EC and ECP.
This position requires a true migration strategist not an ETL developer or technical data loader. The ideal consultant will bring a structured, proven methodology and guide the client through the remaining planning, design, readiness, and execution oversight activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and own the end-to-end data migration strategy across multiple HCM workstreams.
- Lead the organization through structured planning, design, quality, and readiness phases.
- Provide leadership and course correction following challenges encountered in an earlier migration attempt.
- Advise on migration tools, approaches, and governance frameworks.
- Establish a strategy and methodology that internal teams and SAP functional resources will execute.
- Partner effectively with internal stakeholders and system integrators while maintaining diplomacy and program cohesion.
Tools & Technology Context:
- The client currently owns an enterprise migration platform (e.g., Syniti) and is assessing whether it can be implemented rapidly and cost-effectively at this stage.
- Experience with Syniti or similar platforms is highly advantageous, but not required.
- Consultant will advise on whether the existing tool is viable or whether a simplified interim approach is appropriate.
- Introduction of new tools at this stage is out of scope.
Data Scope & Program Status:
- Migration includes data movement from an on-premise HCM system into SuccessFactors EC/ECP, with an additional workstream migrating data from another cloud platform into SuccessFactors.
- Strategy recently shifted from multi-year historical migration to a more targeted scope of top-of-stack plus active and terminated employees.
- Workshops are in progress, with several complete and additional sessions scheduled over the coming weeks.
- The selected consultant will join immediately to help steer strategy, accelerate planning, and drive alignment across teams.
Profile & Leadership Qualities:
- Extensive experience leading large-scale data migration initiatives, preferably in SAP HCM or SuccessFactors environments.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence, navigate partner dynamics, and diplomatically redirect responsibilities where needed.
- Ability to bring structure, clarity, and proven methodologies to complex, high-visibility transformation programs.
- Comfortable guiding cross-functional teams while remaining hands-off on execution.
Engagement Details:
- Start Date: ASAP
- Duration: 6+ months
- Travel: Minimal; occasional visits for key milestone activities may be required.
