Hiring: Staff AI/ML Engineer & Data Scientist (Contract) Manufacturing Industry

We are a specialized consulting firm that partners with enterprise clients to deliver top engineering talent. We re seeking a Staff-level AI/ML Engineer & Data Scientist with deep expertise in traditional ML, deep learning, and MLOps to support a leading organization in the manufacturing industry.

This role will design, deploy, and operationalize production-grade ML systems, while guiding best practices, architecture, and performance standards. If you enjoy building scalable pipelines, solving complex data challenges, and driving measurable business impact we d love to speak with you.

Location

Hybrid Occasional onsite visits required to Normal, IL (initial scoping + periodic collaboration)

What You ll Do

  • Lead end-to-end ML lifecycle: data prep, feature engineering, training, validation, deployment, monitoring

  • Architect scalable ML pipelines and APIs (Python primary; Golang for backend integration)

  • Implement enterprise-grade MLOps: CI/CD, automated retraining, versioning, drift detection, rollback

  • Apply statistical analysis: hypothesis testing, Bayesian methods, model explainability

  • Build anomaly detection and forecasting models utilizing unlabeled sensor/manufacturing data

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and analytics teams

Core Skills Needed

  • Databricks MLOps, Databricks AI/ML

  • AWS MLOps & DevOps

  • Database setup + automation experience

  • Feature engineering & hyper-parameter tuning

  • Strong data preprocessing for unlabeled datasets

  • Experience integrating VectorDBs & GraphDBs

Must Have Qualifications

  • Master s degree or PhD (mandatory)

  • 8+ years experience in applied ML/Data Science

  • 3+ years in a Senior/Staff lead capacity

  • Python expert (bonus: Golang experience)

  • Proven experience deploying traditional ML to production

  • Strong SQL + NoSQL fundamentals

  • Model monitoring, drift detection, and retraining strategies

Preferred Experience

  • Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)

  • Time-series & anomaly detection

  • Spark/Ray for distributed computing

  • AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform deployments

  • PLC/manufacturing sensor data exposure (big plus)
