Quality Inspector - Receipt Inspection (Part-Time) - Port Arthur, TX + Local Travel
Location: Port Arthur, TX & Sabine Pass area (with travel up to 35 miles surrounding area)
Employment Type: Part-Time Contract (3 days a week)
Duration: Long-Term / Ongoing
Opportunity Overview:
iSphere is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Inspector for a part-time, field-based role supporting receipt inspections at a major industrial site in the Port Arthur, TX area. This role is responsible for inspecting materials and equipment delivered to site, validating compliance with project specifications and industry standards, and managing documentation through SAP Quality Management (QM). The ideal candidate will have hands-on inspection experience in oil and gas or heavy industry environments and demonstrate a strong command of PMI, dimensional checks, and quality documentation review.
Key Responsibilities:
Receipt Inspection & Verification:

Inspect incoming mechanical materials (e.g., valves, piping, rotating machinery) for conformance to purchase orders and specifications

Validate Material Test Reports (MTRs), Certificates of Compliance (CoCs), and packing lists
-
Conduct Positive Material Identification (PMI) and dimensional measurements
-
Identify physical damage, defects, or specification deviations during visual and technical inspections
Compliance & Documentation:
-
Ensure all materials meet project specs, industry codes (ASME, API, ANSI), and client QC procedures
-
Confirm traceability and accurate tagging in accordance with project requirements
-
Review and maintain Manufacturer s Data Books (MDBs), Material Test Certificates (MTCs), and inspection records
-
Submit thorough receipt inspection reports with supporting photos and documentation
SAP Quality Management:

Use SAP QM Module to record inspections, track quality metrics, and manage non-conformances

Generate and manage quality notifications and inspection logs within SAP
Non-Conformance Management:
-
Identify, document, and escalate non-conforming materials
-
Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues and track corrective actions

Prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and ensure resolution is timely and documented
Inventory & Warehouse Support:

Conduct spot checks and compliance audits of stored materials
-
Assist warehouse staff in documentation validation and proper storage

Ensure all inventory records are accurate and support traceability and compliance
Communication & Reporting:

Liaise with QA/QC Manager, Warehouse, and Procurement teams

Deliver timely updates on inspection results and quality issues
Qualifications & Skills:
Education & Certifications:
-
High school diploma required; associate s or bachelor s in mechanical engineering preferred
-
Certifications in Welding, Coating, NDT, or PMI highly desirable

Deep familiarity with ASME, API, ANSI, and related standards required
Experience:
-
5+ years in receipt inspection or QC within oil & gas, energy, or manufacturing sectors

Hands-on experience with SAP Quality Management (QM) module is essential

Strong background in inspecting piping, valves, rotating equipment, and mechanical materials
Technical Knowledge & Tools:

Skilled in use of calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision instruments

Excellent document review capabilities (MDBs, MTCs, inspection/test records)
-
Proficient in Microsoft Office and SAP interfaces
Other Requirements:

Able to lift and physically inspect large materials when required

Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and commitment to safety

Willing to travel locally (within 35 miles) as needed for inspection work
