Senior Manager Engineering

PURPOSE:

Provides the technical knowledge and is accountable for troubleshooting, planning, coordination, and execution of technical activities needed to support Manufacturing Operations in the Final Product Manufacturing (FPM), API, and site utilities.. Supports all the manufacturing process areas and ensures timely resolution of technical issues, execution of projects, and maintenance guidance and support that is carried over from previous shift: Develops technical, Engineering, Manufacturing or HES standards/programs. Meets customer needs in support of business goals.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role Senior Manager Engineering:
Provide effective leadership including: individual goal setting/performance reviews, managing the development of employees and team members, recognizing and appreciating employee contributions, mitigating conflict and communication problems, planning and facilitating team activities, selecting personnel and motivating members of the functional area; supporting workforce diversity, quality and safety and supporting supervisors in the management of their employees/department which support achievement of individual/department/business objectives;
Senior Engineer for Production and Site Support on off-shift and weekends. Leads cross functional group to resolve off shift site issues, and escalate to senior management;
Provides key technical input for the definition of concepts for improvement of existing equipment and processes and/or the identification of alternative equipment or installations, and to ensure reliability of Production Unit process equipment, facilities and utilities;
Provides guidance and leadership on back shit and ensures production equipment uptime through preventive or predictive measures as well as modifications and repairs;
Provides the necessary technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolving problems with all Production Unit, and Utility processes and equipment;
HES compliance - supports Bayer Berkeley's commitment to safety by complying with the programs regarding health, safety and protection of the environment. The incumbent demonstrates safe work practices and leads off shift safety meetings as needed, provides input to relevant personnel (e.g., operators, supervisors, technicians) regarding safety issues and ensures resolution of non-conforming conditions;
Demonstrates high level of urgency and is able to quickly adapt to changing priorities;
Provides leadership and guidance for the plant engineers, maintenance and operations technicians and supervisors that directly support production equipment to maximize uptime of manufacturing. Coaches and teaches junior members of the department;
Collaborates with other engineering department heads (API PCS Engineering and API Utilities and Facilities) for coordinated daily technical operation of the plants by their respective engineering teams;
Understands detailed technical knowledge and helps to ensure swing shift plant engineering, and production operations team has the specific technical knowledge and training required to perform their functions;
Collect analyze, identify, and report equipment downtime information and ensure resolution of critical equipment items;
Coordination of maintenance activities and shutdown requirements for production equipment, utilities, and facilities as needed on the back shift;
Supervise, plan, and organize engineering cross-functional activities on back shift and week end;
Understanding of relevant SOPs, Guidelines and Regulatory requirements;
Makes independent decisions as needed for all areas of engineering when on site, and serves as a consultant to management.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications

. A Bachelor of Science Degree or similar from an accredited college or university in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with regulatory and cGMP requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing is required.
Knowledge and hands-on experience with pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including equipment, utilities, and facilities, cGMP compliance, high purity water systems, clean room HVAC systems, process instrumentation and control systems, etc., are required.
General knowledge of Bulk Formulation, Sterile Filling, Lyophilization, Packaging and Warehouse, chromatography, cell culture, and clean utility technologies
Experience with Process Control Systems, including DCS, PLC, instrumentation and low voltage electrical systems is required.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex equipment / systems and supporting utility services.
Requires flexibility to support business requirement of weekend coverage.
Must demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills.
Strong technical background. Must possess computer literacy skills, and SAP experience.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with a wide customer base and the ability to effectively communicate with a team of technically skilled employ

Familiarity with large-scale biotech manufacturing processes and clean utilities.

Preferred:
Minimum Experience BS 10+ years MS 8+ years 5+ years of experience in managing a team of technically skilled employees in Engineering discipline. ...or an equivalent combination of education and experience Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate

The salary range for this position will be $130,500 - $195,800. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
