Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Network Engineer I to support both upcoming hardware certification initiatives and ongoing firmware lifecycle projects within a large-scale telecommunications network environment. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with foundational networking experience who are eager to grow in the industry. You will assist in certifying new Fortinet network devices for future product launches, while also supporting firmware lifecycle maintenance and break/fix requests across previously certified hardware.

responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Support the certification and testing of new Fortinet network devices to enable upcoming product rollouts.
- Assist with firmware lifecycle maintenance for previously certified network hardware across various platforms.
- Respond to urgent break/fix requests related to certified network devices.
- Participate in the planning, deployment, and documentation of enterprise network infrastructure.
- Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, and security devices.
- Monitor and optimize network performance, availability, and reliability.
- Implement secure connectivity solutions and access controls, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
- Analyze system performance and capacity to support infrastructure improvements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, processes, and test results.
qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- 0-2 years of hands-on experience or relevant education in network engineering or IT infrastructure.
- Solid understanding of IP networking fundamentals, including subnetting, routing, and switching.
- Familiarity with core networking protocols such as TCP/IP, OSPF, and MPLS.
- Working knowledge of VLANs, QoS, and Layer 1-3 networking concepts.
- Understanding of fiber types, network hardware interfaces, and basic CLI troubleshooting.
- Exposure to or experience with Fortinet devices or similar enterprise-grade security platforms is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in a networked environment.
- Clear and effective communication skills; able to work within structured documentation and cross-functional teams.

- VLANs and QoS (802.1p/802.1q)
- Layer 2 and Layer 3 Networking
- Routing Protocols (OSPF, MPLS, IS-IS - awareness level)
- Network failover protocols (e.g., HSRP, VRRP, LACP)
Security & Infrastructure
- Firewall configuration (Fortinet preferred)
- Intrusion detection systems
- Network access controls
- Firmware lifecycle management
- Network performance monitoring and tuning
Hardware & Protocol Knowledge
- Routers and switches (Cisco CLI familiarity)
- Fiber technologies (CWDM, DWDM, PON)
- SC/LC fiber connector types
- OSI model understanding
Tools & Commands
- Cisco command line
- Familiarity with network certification or testing processes
- Documentation of network configurations and system architecture
