Essential Job Duties
This position will provide support in the following areas.
The selection, evaluation, installation, and maintenance of electric utility systems are based on precise requirements. Inaccuracies in specifications (e.g., setup, integration) can be costly, time-consuming, and dangerous. Proper oversight and diligence are essential to ensure accuracy and avoid such issues. All modifications, calibration procedures, and repairs must be thoroughly documented. Complex diagrams and procedures must be followed to analyze problems and take appropriate corrective actions.
Consequence of Error
The relays and controls overseen by this position protect equipment valued in the millions of dollars. Improper calibration, calculation, or testing can lead to catastrophic equipment failure and/or inaccurate system data. Such failures could result in widespread power outages across campus, jeopardizing research and university operations, and incurring substantial operational costs.
Instructions Provided to the Employee
General goals, objectives, schedule requirements, and limited technical directions are provided. The employee is expected to work independently, utilizing web-based resources, vendor manuals, diagrams, drawings, and other written documentation.
Guides, Regulations, Policies, and References Used by the Employee

The employee must consult with operations personnel before, during, and after installation and maintenance tasks to ensure effectiveness and to conduct necessary follow-ups. Collaboration with EDS operations, vendors, contractors, engineering firms, and EDS staff is also required during the planning and design phases.
Physical Efforts
The position requires physical activity including bending, stooping, climbing ladders or scaffolding, kneeling, working with arms and hands above head for extended periods, handling large equipment, and lifting/moving up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accomodation.
