Senior Security Engineer

Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Security Specialist to support and strengthen our security operations while maintaining and optimizing core Microsoft infrastructure. This is a hybrid position requiring part-time onsite presence in Athol, MA, with the potential to convert to a full-time role.

Key Responsibilities:

Security Operations

• Lead daily security operations including patch management and asset tracking
• Administer security tools: firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus, and SIEM solutions
• Conduct regular access control and security reviews
• Support security awareness training programs and threat response
• Coordinate incident response and post-event analysis

Systems Administration

• Administer and support Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive)
• Execute migration projects to Microsoft 365 from legacy platforms
• Manage Windows Server and Active Directory / Entra ID (Azure AD)
• Create and maintain system documentation
• Troubleshoot and resolve M365 and hybrid environment issues
• Script automation tasks using PowerShell

Governance & Compliance

• Assist with compliance initiatives, KPIs, and regulatory reporting
• Collaborate on IT policies and risk assessments

Threat Intelligence

• Monitor security threats and apply actionable intelligence
• Work with external security partners and vendors as needed

Required Skills & Experience:

• 5+ years in systems engineering or security operations
• Hands-on expertise in Microsoft 365, Windows Server, and Active Directory/Entra ID
• Experience in security toolsets (firewalls, antivirus, SIEM, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of DNS, DHCP, SSL/TLS, and general networking
• PowerShell scripting experience
• Experience in hybrid environments and cloud migration projects
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred Certifications:

• CISSP, CISM, CEH, Microsoft 365, Azure Administrator, or equivalent
