Summary

You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the PRODUCTION DIVISION of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

Help

  • You will manage data contained in facilities information systems, (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Maximo) to ensure information is accurate
  • You will use database management and tracking systems (e.g., Maximo or similar systems) to track workflow and equipment
  • You will develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for test processes to ensure standard operations.
  • You will investigate engineering problems (e.g., progress schedules, safety plans, quality control, and utility outage requests) for resolution and project

  • You will be subject to call back after normal working hours and scheduled overtime will be necessary.
  • You will be designated as Essential personnel and is required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before, during and/or after special emergency situations.
  • You may be required to report to work during emergencies or destructive weather even though Essential personnel have been instructed not to do so.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
  • You will be required to carry a cellular phone on occasion. Call back will be subject to NAVFAC MIDLANT Instructions as well and will require a response within fifteen (15) minutes and arrival within ninety (90) minutes.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Performing visual and predictive maintenance inspections of utility facilities, distribution, and equipment using thermography, infra-red and dyes for example; 2) Analyzing maintenance reports and utility work type metrics to identify trends and recommend corrective action; 3) Maintaining up to date and accurate mechanical utility system line/valve diagrams, schematic diagrams, and interconnection diagrams. Utilizes computer aided design (CAD) systems and database management systems to accomplish these functions; 4) Providing support to the PWD for the Utility Systems within PWD Portsmouth's Area of Responsibility (AOR), which includes Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) and its surrounding annexes; 5) Providing assistance to Public Works Department (PWD) production work centers for planning and establishment of outages on mechanical utility systems, by determining facilities affected by outage, performing field checks, writing outage notices, and developing valve operation packages.
