Description
SAIC is seeking a Transportation Specialist (Functional) to support the U.S. Transportation Command - Global Freight Management (GFM) program. This role serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in transportation and freight management operations, ensuring that systems meet mission requirements.
The Transportation Specialist will work with customers, developers, and testers to translate transportation needs into functional specifications, validate system capabilities, and ensure new or updated solutions effectively support DoD transportation operations. This position is ideal for individuals with practical experience in freight and transportation processes who can leverage that knowledge in a systems and requirements-driven setting.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Serve as a functional SME for transportation and freight management processes within the GFM program.
Collaborate with customers and development teams to identify, document, and refine system requirements.
Translate operational transportation needs into functional specifications for software enhancements.
Support Help Desk operations by resolving functional transportation system issues and troubleshooting user challenges.
Conduct internal and functional testing to ensure system updates meet user and mission needs.
Develop and deliver presentations to stakeholders, demonstrating how proposed solutions meet initial requirements.
Prepare functional documentation, including Test Recommendation Documents with detailed validation instructions.
Engage in Agile practices, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and Joint Advisory Design (JAD) sessions.
Provide feedback on functional gaps and recommend improvements to system usability and performance.
Support testing and technical teams by providing functional insights during system validation and verification.
Qualifications
Education and Required Qualifications:
BS and 3 years or more of experience in transportation, freight management, or logistics (DoD or federal environment preferred).
Active Secret Clearance required.
Familiarity with DoD transportation policies, regulations, and systems.
Experience in Agile project environments, with exposure to requirements gathering, functional testing, and user validation.
Proficiency in Jira (or similar) for project tracking and issue management.
Experience with Confluence (or similar) for documentation and knowledge sharing.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate operational needs into system requirements.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain functional transportation processes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative Agile team.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of USTRANSCOM systems such as GFM or other DoD freight management platforms.
Familiarity with automated testing tools (SmartBear TestComplete or similar) to support functional validation.
Exposure to XML or data integration tools.
Experience supporting large-scale system modernization or logistics IT programs.
