Job Summary
The AS400 RPG Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining RPG-based applications on the IBM iSeries/AS400 platform. The role requires close collaboration with business analysts, stakeholders, and IT team members to deliver efficient solutions for enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development:
Design, develop, and enhance software applications using RPG (RPGLE, RPG IV, Free Format RPG) on the AS400/iSeries platform.
Write, debug, and modify programs to meet business requirements and specifications.
Maintenance & Support:
Provide ongoing support for existing RPG applications, troubleshoot issues, and resolve defects promptly.
Analyze existing code and optimize performance for better system efficiency.
Collaboration:
Work closely with business users, analysts, and cross-functional teams to understand business requirements.
Provide technical guidance and collaborate on project designs and implementation.
Documentation:
Prepare clear technical documentation, including program specifications, testing plans, and user instructions.
Maintain up-to-date system documentation for new and modified applications.
Testing:
Conduct unit testing, system testing, and assist users with user acceptance testing (UAT).
Ensure quality assurance in all development tasks to deliver reliable solutions.
System Integration:
Integrate RPG applications with other systems, databases, and technologies as needed.
Collaborate on modernization initiatives to improve legacy systems.
Skills and Qualifications
Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency in RPG IV, RPGLE, CLLE, SQL, DB2 on IBM iSeries (AS400).
Experience with Free-Format RPG and knowledge of legacy RPG/400.
Proficiency in Query/400, SQL scripts, and debugging tools like STRDBG.
Hands-on experience with tools like Turnover, Aldon, or other version control systems.
Experience:
3 8 years of experience as an RPG Developer on AS400/iSeries.
Experience with enterprise systems in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, finance, or healthcare is preferred.
