Job Description

Managers within Technology at Nordstrom help create an inspiring workplace where talented people are empowered to drive amazing customer experiences and business results. As the Engineering Manager for Checkout & Wishlist, you will guide a team responsible for building and scaling the next-generation Checkout and Wishlist experiences, which are central to our eCommerce conversion funnel and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a diverse team of engineers focused on Checkout and Wishlist solutions.
  • Drive strategy and execution for scalable, resilient, and high-quality Checkout and Wishlist platforms, supporting millions of orders and global customers.
  • Collaborate with product, UX design, and partner engineering teams to deliver best-in-class customer experiences.
  • Oversee the design, development, and testing of full-stack features (Web UI, APIs, Cloud Infrastructure) using modern technologies (React, Redux, Node.js, TypeScript, Java, Golang, AWS).
  • Ensure adherence to engineering best practices, including secure coding, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and performance optimization.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, open dialogue, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion operational excellence, including instrumentation, monitoring, and 24x7 support for critical systems.
  • Manage team participation in agile development/ceremony management, planning /backlog management, and code reviews.
  • Encourage experimentation, lean software, and AI development to deliver incremental value.
  • Hold team members accountable for delivering world-class customer experiences.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing engineers, preferably in eCommerce or customer-facing domains.
  • Experience building/integrating large-scale Checkout, Wishlist, or similar transactional platforms.
  • Solid foundation in software engineering practices, data modeling, object-oriented design, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Familiarity with Web UI development (React, Redux, Node.js, TypeScript) and backend technologies (Golang, Java, .NET).
  • Experience with test automation, CI/CD, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, using technology to drive key business metrics.
  • Demonstrable experience managing effectively through ambiguity and prioritizing for results.
  • Ability to manage cross functional partnerships including third party vendor solutions.
  • Passion for building high-functioning, diverse teams and fostering an inclusive environment.

$166,000.00 - $258,000.00 Annual
