Position: Tool Design Engineer
Location: Waterloo, IA
Duration: 1+ Years
Shift:
- 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- Expected Overtime: 10-15 hours per week
We are seeking a skilled Tool Design Engineer to support tooling projects from concept through completion. In this role, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders to design, model, and deliver high-quality tooling solutions that meet manufacturing and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end tool design process for assigned projects.
- Review and clarify work orders (WOs) with stakeholders.
- Develop initial design concepts (up to 20% of project scope) and iterate based on stakeholder feedback.
- Complete 3D modeling and obtain design approval prior to detailing.
- Create detailed CAD drawings and geometry required for manufacturing.
- Notify the Tool Design Procurement team upon design completion.
- Deliver build-ready prints and conduct design reviews with Tool Makers.
- Participate in fit/function testing alongside Tool Makers and Manufacturing Engineers.
- Provide troubleshooting support during the build and testing phases.
- Update and finalize "As Built" documentation post-completion.
- Proficiency in Creo or other solid modeling software.
- Strong understanding of fabrication methods and manufacturing processes.
- Background in engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience with programming languages such as C++, Python, or SQL.
- Project management experience in a technical or manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with supply chain, procurement, or purchasing processes.
