Description:

Position: Tool Design Engineer

Location: Waterloo, IA

Duration: 1+ Years

Shift:
  • 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Expected Overtime: 10-15 hours per week
About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Tool Design Engineer to support tooling projects from concept through completion. In this role, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders to design, model, and deliver high-quality tooling solutions that meet manufacturing and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end tool design process for assigned projects.
  • Review and clarify work orders (WOs) with stakeholders.
  • Develop initial design concepts (up to 20% of project scope) and iterate based on stakeholder feedback.
  • Complete 3D modeling and obtain design approval prior to detailing.
  • Create detailed CAD drawings and geometry required for manufacturing.
  • Notify the Tool Design Procurement team upon design completion.
  • Deliver build-ready prints and conduct design reviews with Tool Makers.
  • Participate in fit/function testing alongside Tool Makers and Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Provide troubleshooting support during the build and testing phases.
  • Update and finalize "As Built" documentation post-completion.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Creo or other solid modeling software.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication methods and manufacturing processes.
  • Background in engineering or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with programming languages such as C++, Python, or SQL.
  • Project management experience in a technical or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with supply chain, procurement, or purchasing processes.
