GIS Analyst
Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented GIS Analyst to collect, analyze, and interpret geospatial data to support organizational decision-making and projects. The GIS Analyst will utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to create maps, perform spatial analysis, and manage geospatial databases. This role requires proficiency in GIS software, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection and Management: Gather, process, and maintain geospatial data from various sources, including satellite imagery, GPS, and public datasets, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
Spatial Analysis: Perform spatial and statistical analyses to identify patterns, trends, and relationships in geospatial data to support business or research objectives.
Map Creation: Design and produce high-quality maps, visualizations, and reports using GIS software for presentations, reports, or operational use.
Database Management: Develop and manage geospatial databases, ensuring data is organized, accessible, and compliant with organizational standards.
Tool Development: Create and maintain GIS tools, scripts, or applications to automate workflows and improve efficiency using languages like Python or R.
Collaboration: Work with stakeholders, including planners, engineers, and decision-makers, to understand project requirements and deliver tailored GIS solutions.
Data Integration: Integrate GIS data with other systems or datasets, such as CAD, CRM, or enterprise platforms, to support interdisciplinary projects.
Quality Assurance: Validate and verify geospatial data and outputs to ensure accuracy and reliability in analyses and deliverables.
Documentation: Document GIS processes, methodologies, and metadata to support transparency and reproducibility.
Trend Awareness: Stay updated on GIS technologies, remote sensing, and industry trends to recommend innovative approaches and tools.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor s degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related field (Master s degree preferred).
Experience: 2+ years of experience in GIS analysis, geospatial data management, or related roles.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, ArcGIS Online).
Experience with spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and cartography.
Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL) for GIS automation and data analysis.
Familiarity with remote sensing, GPS, and geospatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML).
Experience with web-based GIS platforms and cloud environments (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise, Google Earth Engine) is a plus.
Certifications: Preferred certifications include Esri ArcGIS Desktop Associate, GISP (GIS Professional), or equivalent.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills for presenting complex geospatial information to non-technical audiences.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
