This position documents and reports data usage and performance metrics with the focus of maintaining 24/7 system availability. The incumbent in this position is trusted by management as an individual contributor serving as the primary go-to person for all enterprise data systems, data backups, and recovery.

This position is responsible for ensuring L&I end users and external customers have the resources to do their work by providing Enterprise Data System hardware and software that is always available. This is fundamental and central to the agency s ability to do business and help meet its mission of keeping Washington safe and working. These are complex technologies that require setup, configuration, support, and monitoring for seamless operations including data recovery. This position will work independently to determine the causes between hardware and/or software components that affect the ability of Agency and Division staff to perform their job functions by applying advanced and high level investigative analysis methods and techniques. In addition, this position is designated COOP for multiple complex systems. In such an event, this position would be called upon to provide expert knowledge of system recovery to restore the agency back to Agency business functions.

Duties

Some of what you will be doing

  • Storage Systems Administration, including:
    • Design, implement, configure and support of all storage infrastructure at L&I.
    • Performs daily administration of storage used in Microsoft Azure or other Cloud Services managing the storage space and capacity planning
    • Maintaining storage performance and capacity thresholds on all L&I storage systems
    • Maintains storage capacity and availability across all storage platforms by moving data between systems.
    • Conducts cost analysis of provisioned Cloud storage and future capacity planning
    • Security patching and storage system updates

  • Data Backup Administration, including:
    • Serves as an Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the L&Is Data Backup Infrastructure utilizing Veeam software and other tools
    • Designs, implements, maintains, and support the L&I Backup Infrastructure on primes and Microsoft Azure Cloud
    • Provide data backup and recovery for all on premise physical and virtual servers and Microsoft Azure Cloud servers and data
    • Deploys new hardware, software or upgrades to multiple locations related to backup and recovery systems or physical or virtual technologies
    • Works with end users or projects creating custom data backup jobs

  • Project Support, including:
    • Works with team to collaborate, design, and implement solutions based on the project requirements for servers, storage, and other networking solutions.
    • Deploys new hardware, software, new technology, or upgrades, supporting new project requirements related to servers, storage, backup and recovery systems.
    • Plans, develops tests, modifies troubleshoots implements, complex storage systems

  • Server Administration, including:
    • Created build plans and scripts used to deploy Windows Servers.
    • Configures network servers, such as Domain Controllers, Global Catalog servers, Active Directory Services, to meet required standards and integrates these systems within the L&I Network Infrastructure.
    • Resolves complex installation or upgrade problems independently.
    • Monitors server, network and services health using monitoring and diagnostic tools.
    • Creates and sends information to agency business areas, customers and stakeholders concerning status of problems, projects and technical requests.

  • Problem Resolution, including:
    • Troubleshoot and research critical storage infrastructure problems to determine resolution
    • Determine the causes of Storage Infrastructure, Backup Infrastructure issues, hardware failures or incompatibilities, software failures or incompatibilities and/or operating system issues across the L&I Statewide Enterprise.
    • Independently works to resolve complex issues of technical outages or problems
    • Work independently to determine the causes between hardware and/or software components

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science

And

  • Three years of IT experience, working full-time in a professional IT environment*.

Or

  • Associate s Degree in Computer Science

And

  • Five years of IT experience, working full-time in a professional IT environment*.

Or

  • Seven years of IT experience, working full-time in a professional IT environment* (*IT experience includes but is not limited to:
    • Data System hardware and software administration, VMware Support, TFS, DevOps, application development, analyzing, designing, implementing, maintaining a windows based computing environment.) (*Professional IT environment includes experience with VMware vSphere Infrastructure, Windows Server Operating Systems and services.)

  • Included in your experience you must have four (4) years experience:
    • Supporting a Microsoft Windows Enterprise Network comprised of 500+ customers in multiple locations.
    • Administering an enterprise storage solution utilizing SAN/NAS technology.

Desired

  • Certification in Microsoft server, Citrix, Server +, or other vendors (Cisco, VM, etc )
