Reliability Engineering Consultant (very strong candidate)

Top 3: Reliability Engineering, High Level, combination of MTBF or MTTF or Bathtub Curve analysis, electromechanical product + regulated industry (ideally medical)

High-level Reliability Engineering Consultant from a regulated industry background ideally automotive, aerospace, or medical devices. This will be a full-time consulting engagement expected to last 6 8 months.

The consultant will:

  • Coach their team on evaluating and improving the reliability of an electromechanical hand piece.
  • Help them understand and apply concepts like MTBF, MTTF, and Bathtub Curve analysis.
  • Assess whether they have the right data, what additional data is needed, and whether accelerated testing is required.
  • Recommend medium-level design changes (not full redesigns) to improve reliability.
  • Guide ROI analysis for potential design improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • - Coach the internal team on evaluating and improving the reliability of an electromechanical hand piece.
  • - Analyze failure data and guide the team in understanding and applying reliability metrics such as MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), MTTF (Mean Time To Failure), and Bathtub Curve analysis.
  • - Assess current reliability data and determine additional data requirements for accurate reliability calculations.
  • - Recommend and support medium-level design changes to improve product reliability without requiring a complete redesign.
  • - Advise on the need for and execution of accelerated life testing.
  • - Help quantify the ROI of design improvements based on reliability analysis.

Qualifications:

  • - Proven experience in reliability engineering within regulated industries (automotive, aerospace, or medical devices).
  • - Strong background in electromechanical systems and biomedical product reliability.
  • - Expertise in reliability analysis tools and methodologies including MTBF, MTTF, and Bathtub Curve.
  • - Ability to interpret and guide data collection and analysis for reliability improvement.

- Excellent communication and coaching skills to support internal engineering teams.
