Position:Python Developer
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid Local Candidates Only; In-Person Interview Required)
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Python Developer with a strong background in investment banking, investment management, or financial market data to join a small, fast-paced technology startup. This role requires hands-on expertise in Python programming and deep knowledge of financial systems, data processing, and performance optimization within a regulated environment.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, high-accountability setting and will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing scalable applications and data pipelines used in financial analytics and trading systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance Python-based applications and services.
Collaborate with stakeholders and business analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Integrate Python applications with financial systems, APIs, and databases.
Build and optimize data processing pipelines for large-scale financial datasets.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, security standards, and coding best practices (TDD, CI/CD).
Participate in architecture reviews, technical discussions, and peer code reviews.
Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering excellence within the team.
Required Qualifications:
7 10 years of hands-on experience in Python development.
Proven background in financial services, capital markets, trading systems, or banking.
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and system architecture.
Proficiency with pandas, NumPy, SQLAlchemy, or similar data-processing libraries.
Solid experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
Familiarity with REST APIs, microservices, and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) preferred.
Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD pipelines using tools like Git, Jenkins, and Docker.
Understanding of security and compliance best practices in financial software.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
