Description:

  • This role is vital for establishing and maintaining comprehensive data governance within the company's Google Cloud environment, focusing on Google Cloud Dataplex and Data Catalog.
  • The Manager will ensure data quality, security, compliance, and effective utilization to support informed decision-making and operational efficiency.

Job Summary:

  • The Data Governance Manager will develop and implement a scalable data governance framework within the Google Cloud environment, defining data standards and collaborating with stakeholders to foster a data-driven culture.
  • This position is crucial for safeguarding data integrity and reliability, contributing directly to the security of a vital national infrastructure asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Framework Development: Define, document, and implement a scalable data governance framework, including strategies, policies, standards, and best practices. Establish data standards, best practices, and guidelines to ensure data quality, integrity, security, and regulatory compliance. Develop and maintain data quality rules and business glossary entries.
  • Data Quality and Integrity: Ensure data quality and integrity by defining and tracking KPIs, conducting regular data quality assessments, and implementing improvement plans. Monitor data integrity, resolve inconsistencies, and implement data validation and cleansing procedures.
  • Metadata Management: Manage metadata using Google Cloud Dataplex and Data Catalog. Define and implement data catalog capabilities and establish scalable metadata management practices. Catalog existing data sources, document data flow and transformation, and collaborate with data stewards to improve data lineage and metadata management. Utilize Dataplex for automated data discovery, curation, and management at scale.
  • Business Glossary and Data Dictionary: Define and maintain a business glossary to ensure consistent data terminology. Contribute to the development and maintenance of a comprehensive data dictionary.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Lead cross-functional collaboration with business units, IT teams, and senior leadership to promote data governance practices. Establish and oversee data stewardship programs, defining roles and responsibilities for data ownership. Engage and support data owners, providing guidance and ensuring accountability.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor and report on key data governance metrics and overall compliance. Define and track KPIs, monitor adherence to policies and regulatory requirements, and report on progress to senior management. Conduct data governance assessments and support internal and external audits.
  • Training and Support: Provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to employees on data governance principles, policies, and best practices. Develop and lead training and awareness programs.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in data governance, data management, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), specifically Google Cloud Dataplex and Data Catalog.
  • Thorough understanding of core data governance principles, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of database systems, data warehousing concepts, and data modeling principles.
  • Expertise in SQL.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience in the energy or pipeline industry.
  • Relevant professional certifications in data governance or Google Cloud technologies.
  • Experience in project management methodologies.
