Cloud Solutions Architect / Migration Lead (Public Sector / K-12 Preferred)

Location: Remote with occasional onsite in Raleigh, NC (as needed)
Duration: 12 Months + 4 Optional Renewal Years (as Managed Services)
Clearance: Must pass K-12 background check and sex offender registry check (Lunsford Act compliant)

Role Summary

The Cloud Solutions Architect will lead discovery, architecture, landing zone design, migration strategy, compliance mapping, and documentation for the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) cloud modernization program. This role is the technical lead and customer-facing strategist throughout the engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead full VMware-to-cloud migration assessment (workloads, dependencies, readiness)
• Design secure, compliant landing zone architecture (FERPA / NIST-171)
• Define RTO/RPO alignment and DR configuration strategy
• Architect connectivity (VPN/Direct Connect/ExpressRoute)
• Develop migration framework, cutover strategy, rollback plans
• Produce all major deliverables:
  • Assessment Report
  • Architecture Blueprint
  • Migration Runbook
  • Risk Register
  • Cloud Cost Comparison
• Oversee pilot migration + phased production waves
• Conduct knowledge transfer to WCPSS IT staff
• Support 30 60 days of hypercare post-migration

Required Technical Qualifications

• 7+ years in cloud architecture and infrastructure modernization
• 3+ years leading enterprise VMware Cloud migrations
• Hands-on experience with AWS MGN, Azure Migrate, HCX, or CloudEndure
• Deep knowledge of:
  • IAM / Identity Integration
  • SOC & SIEM integration
  • Backup & DR topology in cloud (native + 3rd party)
  • Network segmentation & cloud security baselines

Preferred Certifications

(Any of the following)

• Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) strong advantage for NC K-12
• AWS Solutions Architect Professional
• VMware VCP/VMC
• CISSP / CCSP (plus point for compliance mapping)
• ITIL (for managed services transition)

Soft Skills

• Executive stakeholder communication
• Experience working with public sector, K-12, or higher education
• Documentation-heavy environments
• Audit/compliance maturity
