Finance and Accounting Manager
Location: San Jose, California (Hybrid set-up)

About the role:

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Finance and Accounting Manager to join our dynamic team. The Finance and Accounting Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and implementing efficient accounting processes. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of a prominent sports organization while utilizing your expertise in finance, accounting, critical thinking, and process improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day Financial Management:
    • Oversee month-end closing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and payroll processing.
    • Facilitate month-end closing procedures, commission calculations, and accrual management (70-75%).
  • Financial Analysis and Reporting:
    • Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts for timely and accurate insights to senior management (20%).
    • Focus on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, ensuring efficient financial processes and accurate funding projections.
  • Accounts Payable and Board Meeting Contributions:
    • Identify solutions for rising Accounts Payable bills.
    • Contribute to the preparation of board meeting materials and presentation slides.
  • Variance and Flux Analysis:
    • Conduct comprehensive Variance and Flux analysis to understand fluctuations in financial accounts, balances, or data over specific periods.
    • Identify reasons behind variations in financial figures and trends to make informed decisions.
  • Banking Relationships and Funding:
    • Handle banking relationships and funding.
    • Take on various tasks and responsibilities, including accounting and Accounts Payable work, with a willingness to absorb diverse responsibilities.
  • Financial Analyst Focus:
    • Seek a finance and accounting-focused analyst to streamline processes, build a comprehensive cash model, and provide accurate funding projections.
    • Require an individual with a strong finance and accounting background capable of understanding the company's software, chart of accounts, and reconciliation processes.
  • Compliance and Auditing:
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, MLS regulations, and other financial standards.
    • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors for annual audits and tax filings.
    • Systems Implementation and Documentation:
    • Implement and maintain accounting software systems for streamlined processes.
    • Develop and implement documentation processes for financial procedures and policies.
  • Leadership and Mentorship:
    • Lead and mentor a team of finance and accounting professionals.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, critical thinking, and continuous improvement.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Marketing, and Legal, to support strategic initiatives and business objectives.
  • Industry Awareness:
    • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in finance, accounting, and process improvement.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education and Professional Qualifications:
    • Holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
    • CPA designation is required.
    • MUST be local (Hybrid in San Jose, CA)
  • Professional Experience:
    • Brings 10-15 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles.
    • Possesses a strong foundation in both public accounting and corporate finance.
  • Financial Expertise:
    • Proficient in cash flow modeling and management.
    • Demonstrates experience in variance and flux analysis.
    • Strong reconciliation and funding expertise.
  • Software Systems Proficiency:
    • Prior experience as an administrator or implementation leads for accounting software systems (e.g., MS Dynamics, SAP, NetSuite) is preferred.
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Proven critical thinking abilities, with the capacity to evaluate complex financial data.
    • Identifies trends and formulates strategic recommendations.
  • Documentation and Process Implementation:
    • Experience in implementing documentation processes for financial procedures and policies.
  • Leadership and Interpersonal Skills:
    • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
    • Has a track record of building and motivating high-performing teams.
