Senior Network Engineer MPLS/WAN
Location: Dallas, TX (Hybrid 3 days onsite required)
Contract: 12-18 months, with potential for extensions
Our client, is seeking a Senior Network Engineer with deep expertise in MPLS and Wide Area Networking to serve as a Subject Matter Expert on large-scale network modernization and expansion initiatives. This role will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of a private IP/MPLS infrastructure supporting both enterprise and operational technologies. A key focus will be deploying a 100+ site private LTE solution over an existing private IP/MPLS network. The selected engineer will ensure the infrastructure is securely and optimally configured to support these new deployments while maintaining the stability and performance of existing network services.
This position offers the opportunity to lead technically complex, high-impact network projects within a critical infrastructure environment. The successful candidate will serve as the go-to expert for IP/MPLS networking and play a key role in shaping the evolution of large-scale WAN connectivity.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Engineering or related field, Master s degree preferred and at least 12 years of professional experience.
- Relevant certifications such as Nokia SRA or NRS II, Cisco CCNP or CCIE (Enterprise or Service Provider), Juniper JNCIP-SP, or equivalent experience.
- Additional credentials in network security (e.g., PCNSE, NSE4+, CISSP, GICSP) or cloud networking (e.g., AWS Advanced Networking Specialty) are a plus.
- Strong understanding of MPLS, BGP, IS-IS, L3VPNs, QoS, and traffic engineering.
- Hands-on experience with Nokia 7750 and 7705 router platforms (highly preferred).
- Proven experience working with service providers for leased circuits, dark fiber, and wireless backhaul solutions.
- Strong understanding of TCP/UDP protocols, network security principles, and firewall operations.
- Experience with DevOps tools, REST APIs, and data analysis for network automation and optimization.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams.
- Experience managing vendor relationships and support cases, and proficiency with workflow tools such as JIRA.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the SME for IP/MPLS WAN design, configuration, implementation, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, architecture, cybersecurity, and operations to deliver secure, resilient network solutions.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration templates, capacity reports, and operational materials.
- Integrate WAN infrastructure with enterprise and data center networks; coordinate routing and connectivity with vendors and service providers.
- Partner with security teams to coordinate firewall configurations and ensure compliance with established security policies.
- Create and review Method of Procedure (MOP) and Test Plans for network deployments and changes.
- Provide senior technical support during implementation, occasionally outside normal business hours.
- Assess and remediate risks or vulnerabilities within the IP/MPLS environment.
- Support cybersecurity incident response efforts involving WAN infrastructure.
- Conduct on-site assessments at offices, data centers, tower sites, and substations for planning and deployment.
- Maintain and evolve network engineering standards and best practices.
