Remote | HL7 Engineer | Full-time
We re seeking an HL7 Integration Engineer to design, build, and support missioncritical healthcare interfaces across our ecosystem. You will leverage **InterSystems (IRIS/Ensemble/HealthShare)** as a primary integration platform and apply **advanced SQL** to transform, validate, and analyze clinical and operational data. The ideal candidate combines deep HL7 knowledge with handson InterSystems development and strong data engineering practices.
What You ll Do
- **Design & develop HL7 interfaces** (v2.x; familiarity with FHIR a plus) using **InterSystems IRIS/Ensemble/HealthShare**, including business services, processes, and operations.
- Build robust **message mappings** (e.g., ADT, ORM/ORU, SIU, RDE, VXU) with configurable rules, code tables, and transformations.
- Author and optimize **SQL** for staging, validation, reconciliation, and reporting (CTEs, window functions, performance tuning, indexing).
- Implement **data quality** checks (acknowledgments, retries, quarantines) and **error handling** with alerting and observability.
- Collaborate with clinical, LIS, EMR/EHR, and enterprise IT stakeholders to capture requirements, document workflows, and deliver compliant solutions.
- Harden production integrations for **scalability, resilience, and security** (TLS, auditing, PHI safeguards).
- Own interface life cycle: analysis, build, test, deploy, **cutover**, and steadystate support (SLAs/oncall rotation as applicable).
- Produce clear **technical documentation** (interface specs, mapping guides, runbooks) and contribute to bestpractice patterns and reusable components.
MustHave Qualifications
- **5+ years** in healthcare integration engineering with handson **HL7 v2.x** interface development.
- **InterSystems** experience (IRIS/Ensemble/HealthShare): production design, business rules, DTL/DTLJSON, ObjectScript basics, message viewer/trace tools.
- **Strong SQL** proficiency (TSQL/PLSQL or equivalent): complex queries, performance tuning, query plans, index strategy, and stored procedures.
- Proven experience delivering interfaces to/from **EMR/EHR** (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Allscripts) and **LIS/LAB** systems.
- Solid understanding of **healthcare data standards** and workflows (ADT, orders/results, scheduling, vaccinations, pharmacy).
- Experience with **source control** (Git), SDLC, change management, and CI/CD practices.
