Job Title: AIX System Administrator

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid - 3 Day onsite & 2 Days WFH)

Job Description:

Value Technology seeking an experienced AIX System Administrator to join our team in a hybrid role based in Houston, TX. This role involves managing and supporting enterprise-level AIX and Linux environments, handling critical system issues, performing installations and upgrades, and working closely with internal teams to deliver optimized solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24x7 administration, monitoring, and support for midrange systems (AIX/Linux).
  • Perform AIX and Linux server system administration, including installation, customization, and upgrades.
  • Create and manage LPARs (Logical Partitions), including fully and partially virtualized environments.
  • Install, configure, and maintain PowerVM/Advanced Power Virtualization environments including VIO servers and Shared Ethernet Adapters (SEA).
  • Troubleshoot complex OS-level issues and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to design, review, and optimize system performance and deployments.
  • Leverage vendor support and documentation to resolve system problems.
  • Act as a consultant and subject matter expert on AIX and Unix technologies within cross-functional teams.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 6 9 years of hands-on experience as an AIX System Administrator.
  • Strong expertise in IBM AIX and Linux operating systems.
  • Proficient in LPAR generation and reconfiguration.
  • Experience with IBM Power Systems, specifically architectures like Power9 (P9) and Power10 (P10).
  • In-depth knowledge of Power HA, ISD (Installation Service Delivery), and PowerVM.
  • Familiarity with Unix storage technologies and virtualization.
  • Ability to perform OS issue diagnosis and contribute to RCA reporting.
  • Experience with VIO server setup and redundancy planning.
  • Strong scripting and automation experience is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IBM certification in AIX or related technologies.
  • Experience with SEA (Shared Ethernet Adapter) in virtualized environments.
  • Prior experience in a 24x7 enterprise or data center environment.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid role with on-site presence in Houston, TX as required.
  • Must be available for on-call support and occasional after-hours work.
