Resource 1 is in need of a Sr. Power BI Developer with deep experience in Power BI Service and strong Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2) expertise to own and expand our clients’ enterprise reporting environment. This is a 6-month contract-for-hire position and candidates must currently be located in one of the following states: AZ, FL, IL, IN, KY, MI, MO, PA, or VA. Selected individual will be expected to travel to the Chicago office once a month or once every other month for meetings (client will pay travel expenses). This role centers on Power BI Service, advanced semantic modeling, Direct Lake implementation, and building production-quality dashboards sourced from Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2). *This is not a Power BI Desktop-role—expertise in the Power BI Service ecosystem is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize Power BI Service semantic models using Direct Lake and ADLS Gen2 data sources.
- Develop high-quality, interactive dashboards aligned with UX/UI specifications and deployed through Power BI Service workspaces.
- Connect, model, and transform data from ADLS Gen2 and Azure-based data architectures.
- Serve as the technical lead for Power BI Service architecture, governance, deployment pipelines, and best practices.
- Collaborate with design, data engineering, and business teams to translate requirements into scalable, production-ready dashboards.
- Independently troubleshoot modeling, performance, and data integration issues in a cloud environment.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of BI development experience.
- 5+ years hands-on with Power BI Service, including semantic models, dataflows, deployment pipelines, and workspace management.
- Expert-level Power BI expertise in cloud deployment and optimization.
- 2+ years building Direct Lake models.
- Strong experience sourcing, modeling, and optimizing data stored in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2).
- Advanced DAX, semantic modeling, and performance tuning abilities.
- Ability to operate independently and rapidly deliver high-quality solutions.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (helpful but not required).
- Understanding of Lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, or large-scale analytical modeling patterns.
- Background in consumer analytics or dashboard-intensive environments.
