Years of Experience: 2+ Years

Education/Experience:

Bachelor s degree in linguistics, language technologies, computational linguistics, speech science, or related field.

Summary:

The main function of a Linguist is to determine speech data needs and setting strategic vision for data-based model and product improvements.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide linguistic expertise in the areas of phonetics, phonology, lexicography, dialectology, and NLP.
  • Collaborate with XFN Partners to gather and prepare audio files for TTS human evaluations.
  • Work closely with external vendors to track progress on evaluations, address any issues or concerns, and ensure that deliverables meet our quality standards.
  • Analyze received deliverables and provide actionable insights to XFN partners. Address deep dive requests from stakeholders regarding specific aspects of the results.
  • Monitor and track the progress of annotation queues to ensure timely completion and identify any bottlenecks or delays.
  • Address and resolve questions from annotators regarding guidelines to ensure clarity and consistency in annotation tasks.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, dialectology, and other areas of linguistics.
  • Knowledge of prescriptive writing and punctuation conventions for at least one language.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Spreadsheet Management: Proficient in managing and working with spreadsheets.
  • Program Evaluation: Experienced in program management and evaluation.
  • Linguistic Skills: Strong understanding of phonetics and phonology.
  • Language Proficiency: Native English speaker.
  • Guideline Maintenance: Proven experience in maintaining guidelines and resolving related questions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Language Familiarity: Familiarity with French, Italian, German, or Spanish (FIGS) languages.
  • Data Analysis: Basic data analysis skills.
