IT Project Manager Public Safety Systems
Location: Cedar Rapids, IA
Project Duration: 18 30 Months
Work Mode: Hybrid (onsite required during key phases)
The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to lead a large-scale implementation of Public Safety Software Systems, including CAD, RMS, and JMS for Police, Fire, and Emergency Services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the full project lifecycle from RFP through go-live and stabilization
- Manage vendor selection, requirement gathering, testing, and implementation
- Align business processes with system capabilities
- Coordinate with Police, Fire, Jail Staff, IT, Legal, Procurement, and vendors
- Oversee budgets, schedules, risks, and communication plans
- Ensure CJIS compliance and complete project documentation
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in IT, Business, Criminal Justice, or related field
- 5+ years of experience managing complex IT/software projects
- Strong background with public sector or multi-agency implementations
- Familiarity with public safety operations (dispatch, records, detention)
- Proficient in Microsoft Project, Teams, SharePoint, and Office 365
Preferred Qualifications:
- PMP or ITIL certification
- Experience with CAD/RMS/JMS systems (e.g., Tyler, Motorola, Hexagon)
- Knowledge of CJIS, NCIC, and NIBRS standards
- Experience using SmartSheet or ability to adopt new tools quickly
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
