Job Summary:

Manages and leads technical project support in area of expertise to research efforts, Task Manager and leads Proposal development efforts in excess of $750,000 annually. Supervises staff and/or mentors students, publishes 1-peer reviewed journal and 3- publication (proceedings) and/or presents research findings annually at the national and international levels to enhance the scientific nature of the Applied Research Center (ARC), and provides the management, coordination, control of activities, communications and budget for multiple programs with multiple ARC clients on the appropriate research programs and technical projects. Senior Scientists have sufficient experience and background to organize and work with small research groups. Performs tasks on their own initiative. May serve as Principal Investigator or Coprincipal Investigator or work under the direction of a Principal Investigator or program director and with minimal supervision. Plays a leadership role in basic and applied research activities, including authorship of scientific publications, technical and agency reports, or patent preparation. May supervise research employees, non-exempt staff or mentor students

  • Manages technical projects support to research efforts in area of expertise.
  • Serves as ARC point of contact with applicable federal agencies private industry, contractors, on expanding business opportunities. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of new programs and contracts. Coordinate with the ARC senior management and PI's in formulating and implementing policies applicable to research programs and technical projects.
  • Provides the management, coordination, control of activities, communications and budget for multiple programs with multiple ARC clients on the appropriate research programs and technical projects.
  • Develops and formulates original design of new processes to study research problems, as needed.
  • Publishes 1- peer reviewed journal and 3- publication (proceedings) and/or presents research findings annually at the national and international levels to enhance the scientific stature of the Applied Research Center (ARC).
  • Identifies opportunities and submit proposals for external funding. Task Manager and Leads Proposal development efforts in excess of $750,000 annually.
  • Provides assistance in area of expertise to specific contracts, proposals, and related documentation as directed.
  • Coordinates activities, communication, and/or budgets for program(s) and technical project(s).
  • Monitors and stays abreast on federal, state, local government, and commercial technical programs, and associated related technical programs. Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory guidelines.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing strategic and technical direction for managing research activities pertaining to Robotics and machine learning and any future area of expertise assigned.
  • May have access to privileged, sensitive or confidential client information. Disclosure of this information by means of form to persons outside of FIU-ARC is strictly prohibited unless authorized.
  • Utilizes expertise in Robotics and remote systems pertaining to areas of AI/machine learning to promote the Center's research commitments.
  • Supervises staff and/or mentors students. Provides guidance to staff and students working on projects.
  • Conducts independent research within a specialized field of Robotics and remote systems and machine learning
  • Responsible for the management and execution of ARC STEM programs to ensure that the goals, objectives, training, and mentoring of students comply with federal agencies requirements.
  • Provides inputs for the monthly, quarterly, annual, and final reports as needed by research programs.
  • Identifies topics and collaborates with research groups across disciplines.
  • Originates or initiates research opportunities and submits proposals for external funding to support research endeavors.
  • Manages and oversees the execution of all contractual obligations related to assigned projects. Assists in the formulation and administration of the assigned research programs/projects' budgets. Ensures compliance with all applicable and relevant regulatory guidelines.
  • Manages, develops, nurtures and promulgates relationships with the other research organizations. Develops consensus and synergism with collaborative teams.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with current and potential future Clients at federal agencies and industry.
  • Maintains a strong presence in local and national professional technical community.
  • Assists the ARC senior management in formulating and implementing policies applicable to research programs and technical projects. Assists in the establishment of grants and contractual instruments. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of new programs and contracts.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision from supervisor. Directives are provided through meetings, and periodic progress reporting at least monthly.
  • Provides assistance in the interpretation of solicitations and contractual instruments as required.
  • Provides expertise and assistance with regard to specific contracts, proposals and related documentation as directed.
  • Utilizes experience in structural analysis and mechanical design, technology development analysis to achieve Center's research commitments.
  • Performs other related duties are required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree and five (5) years of relevant experience.

Desired qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or related discipline with focus on Robotics and Remote Systems.
  • Experience developing Robotics and remote systems.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence or machine learning.
  • Experience in proposal developing and identifying funding opportunities.
