Job Details

Location: New York, NY 10001

Duration: 18 months

Part time 20hr/week

Must Speak and Read in English and Spanish

Schedule:

  • Trainers will work between the hours of 9-5 conducting trainings for 1.5 - 3 hours, this includes set up times.
  • Trainers will need to go to different sites throughout the week in all 5 boroughs of NYC
  • On average this will be a 20 + hours a week with the potential for more hours depending on the needs for that quarter
  • Working hours are typically Mondays - Thursdays.
  • Schedules are determined at the beginning of each quarter.
  • A 1 2 week break may be taken at the end of each quarter to allow time for preparation for the next.

Job Description:

This part-time position is a unique opportunity for a passionate individual to help older adults thrive in the digital world by using technology to achieve their personal goals. Trainers play a key role in delivering curriculum and offering tech support, while also serving as brand ambassadors who promote a culture of excellence, curiosity, and positive attitude.

Trainers teach technology courses using books and online materials specifically designed for older adults. In-person classes typically meet twice a week for ten weeks. Virtual programs are usually one-time sessions focused on specific technology topics. Schedules vary each quarter. Trainers guide participants in tasks like sending emails, exploring interests online, connecting with family on social media, online banking, launching small businesses, and more. Trainers also help foster a community of support among participants.

This role requires proficiency in commonly used devices and software, but more importantly, a passion for teaching and the ability to communicate the practical benefits of technology to older adults. Ideal candidates are patient, creative, dependable, good problem solvers, and have a sense of humor and commitment to social impact.

Responsibilities:

Delivering technology courses in-person and virtually using provided curriculum

Creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment

Providing individual support via tech hotlines

Making outbound calls to members

Maintaining professionalism at all times

Representing the organization's mission and opportunities to participants

Communicating regularly with program staff, including reporting site or curriculum issues

Coordinating with partner sites for events such as graduations or site visits

Submitting required paperwork promptly

Collecting participant surveys and evaluations

Entering data into a CRM system

Participating in team meetings and training sessions

Recruiting class participants, as needed

Supporting special projects (e.g., outreach, curriculum development)

Supervising class volunteers, as needed

Autonomy and Judgment:

Trainers have moderate autonomy, especially within the programs they teach.

They are responsible for managing the learning environment and helping groups meet predetermined learning goals.

Decision-Making Authority:

Trainers follow standardized training methods and are expected to deliver content accordingly.

Challenges of the Role:

Trainers work with adults aged 60+ from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.

They must adapt quickly and tailor their approach to different learning needs and tech experience levels.

Nature of Interaction:

Trainers provide educational, coaching-oriented support to learners.

Internally, they collaborate with program staff and other trainers to exchange best practices and assignments.

Qualifications:

Strong verbal communication skills

Ability to explain technical concepts clearly in English and Spanish

Experience teaching teens, adults, or seniors is preferred

Proficiency with Windows, iOS, social media, and other commonly used technologies

Willingness to travel to community or senior centers as needed

Ability to work independently and within a team

Excellent time-management skills

Minimum of 1 year of experience in a professional setting
