Job Summary

This position supports the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI) database environment and serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the modernization of Power BI reporting. The role requires substantial independent judgment in directing and coordinating data administration and management methods, practices, procedures, and tools to complete assignments effectively.

Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server database support is required, along with professional knowledge of the Power BI platform and SAS.

We are seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented data professional to join our team on a temporary basis. The primary responsibility of this role is to collaborate with business users to understand the current utilization of Power BI, including identifying the data sources, databases, and tables supporting existing dashboards and reports.

A key focus of this position is to analyze and convert complex SAS programs into optimized SQL code that integrates seamlessly with Power BI, ensuring accuracy, performance, and adherence to best practices in data management.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong experience with SAS, SQL, and Power BI tools (including Power Query and DAX), be adept at documenting current-state processes, and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency. The candidate should also be capable of developing sustainable data pipelines and models. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are essential, along with a proactive and customer-focused approach.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with business users to understand current Power BI usage, including identifying key dashboards, reports, data sources, and tables
  • Review and analyze existing SAS programs and convert them into optimized SQL code suitable for Power BI reporting
  • Apply advanced SAS and SQL knowledge to ensure logic accuracy, performance optimization, and data consistency across platforms
  • Assess and document current data processes, and recommend improvements and automation opportunities aligned with best practices
  • Work with stakeholders to identify data sources, ETL processes, and transformation logic critical to reporting needs
  • Build and maintain robust, sustainable data pipelines with a focus on clarity, performance, and long-term maintainability
  • Utilize Power BI Desktop, Power Query, DAX, and PowerBook tools to support data modeling, development, and visualization
  • Apply strong problem-solving skills to debug, validate, and optimize ETL and data transformation processes
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, document processes, and collaborate across teams
  • Work independently in a temporary/contract role while delivering high-quality work with accuracy, attention to detail, and a customer-focused mindset
