Position Summary:
We re seeking an experienced Senior Database Developer to design, implement, and maintain robust data management solutions that enable seamless data collection, storage, processing, and analysis. This role will establish and uphold a comprehensive data management framework, promote automation in data workflows, and ensure data integrity, accessibility, and security. The ideal candidate will partner with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven insights and support organizational objectives.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Assess current data systems and workflows to identify improvement opportunities
- Design, document, and roadmap a scalable data management framework
- Implement and manage a central data repository or data warehouse for unified access
- Define and enforce data validation rules and automated cleansing processes
- Develop access control policies enforcing least-privilege principles
- Establish backup and disaster recovery procedures
- Collaborate with governance stakeholders to maintain compliance and data quality
- Build automated data ingestion pipelines (APIs, databases, IoT, etc.)
- Develop ETL workflows for transformation, cleansing, and validation
- Integrate automated reporting solutions for real-time and scheduled insights
- Leverage machine learning or AI tools to automate data analysis and derive actionable insights
- Maintain and version-control a comprehensive data dictionary
- Update metadata with new data elements and historical change tracking
- Enforce standardized naming conventions aligned with industry best practices
- Provide intuitive interfaces or portals for stakeholders to access data and metadata
- Implement search and filter capabilities for quick data discovery
- Document usage guidelines and contribution processes for ongoing data stewardship
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required
- Master s degree preferred
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in database development and administration, preferably in a federal or highly regulated environment
- Demonstrated success supporting and understanding complex organizational policies and workflows
- Hands-on experience with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL) preferred
Required Skills:
- Expert in SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL
- Strong abilities in relational database design, data modeling (ERwin or similar), and data warehousing
- Proven track record building and optimizing ETL pipelines and data integration solutions
- Proficient in data profiling, modeling techniques, and governance frameworks
- In-depth knowledge of federal standards (e.g., FISMA, FedRAMP) or equivalent enterprise security best practices
- Familiarity with scripting or orchestration platforms to automate data workflows
- Experience developing and maintaining data dictionaries and governance repositories
- Excellent documentation, presentation, and stakeholder collaboration skills
