Role - Clinical Terminologist
Experience: - 5+ Years
Location: - Chicago, IL OR Houston, TX (Hybrid)
Educational Qualifications: -
- Degree in a clinical discipline: M.D. or D.O., nursing, NP, PA-C, etc.
- Formal informatics training is a strong plus
Responsibilities: -
- Perform heads-down terminology work, plus review clinical work done by non-clinical terminology analysts.
- Use prior patient care/clinical experience and research skills to develop, QA, maintain, and improve client s interface clinical terminology and complex terminology-based products.
- Identification, evaluation, planning, and execution of projects aimed at raising the quality of client s terminology offerings.
- Ownership of terminology projects: includes analysis, clinical oversight, and communication with customers and client s business stakeholders.
- Conduct complex terminology analysis: e.g. customer terminology migration, development/improvement of value sets.
- Migrate customer term dictionaries into client s terminology; map to SNOMED; create new terms when needed.
- Handle customer term requests, including communicating with customers as needed.
- Review updates to standardized terminologies; create/map new laboratory terms where appropriate in client s lexicons.
- Provide domain and terminology support to client s sales and marketing teams.
- Use data tools for analysis and discovery (including SQL).
- Participate in internal meetings; contribute to development and documentation of processes and policies.
- Maintain professional (clinical) domain knowledge; keep current with literature etc.
Mandatory skills
- Preferably 3+ years of clinical experience; completion of residency minimum.
- 3+ years of experience with standardized clinical vocabularies: developing, mapping, etc., including SNOMED-CT.
- Deep understanding of nuances of language and meaning; excellent English vocabulary and grammar (written & verbal).
- High attention to detail; ability to perform complex work carefully.
- Ability to search and assess medical/scientific literature.
- Willingness to lead projects and grow skills over time.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office; use of Microsoft Access-based tools.
- Experience with databases; knowledge of SQL is a strong plus
