Linux Admin

We are seeking an experienced consultant to assist with the administration and support of our Linux platform, a COBOL-based production system running on Linux servers with a web-based Zero Footprint Emulator (ZFE) interface. The consultant will provide technical expertise in Linux system management, user provisioning, environment configuration, and troubleshooting to ensure secure and reliable operations across multiple regions.

Key Responsibilities:

• System Support & Maintenance
• Manage and troubleshoot Linux servers (CentOS 7/8) hosting custom backend and ZFE front-end services.
• Apply security patches and maintain firewall configurations (firewalld/iptables).
• Ensure proper SSL certificate management and host file configurations for secure connectivity.
• User & Environment Management
• Create and maintain user accounts using automated scripts (e.g., user.sh) and configure environment profiles.
• Support login issues for both ZFE (web-based) and SSH access for administrative users.
• Configure and validate terminal emulation settings (VT220 standard) for ZFE and PuTTY sessions.
• Integration & Automation
• Maintain and troubleshoot custom scripts for backups, data synchronization, and external integrations (e.g., ERP feeds, Samba shares).
• Support printing workflows and PDF generation via SwiftView.
• Security & Compliance
• Enforce layered security controls, including restricted shell access for end-users and controlled sudo privileges for admins.
• Assist with compliance audits and documentation updates.

Required Skills:

• Strong Linux administration experience (CentOS preferred).
• Familiarity with COBOL runtime environments and legacy application support.
• Knowledge of network security, VPNs, and SSL certificate management.
• Experience with terminal emulation, scripting (Bash), and automation tools.
• Ability to troubleshoot web-based interfaces and SSH connectivity.
