Job Description:

Apex Systems is currently searching for a SCADA Field Engineer to join our Utilities client. This individual will be traveling around the West Coast commissioning SCADA systems within power plants. This role is 80-90% travel and will require you to travel throughout the U.S., mainly the West Coast. This position is on a rolling 1 year contract, as long as you perform well, you should see your contract extend long term!!!

Title: SCADA Field Engineer

Location: West Coast, 89-90% Travel

Contract Length: Rolling 1 year contract, HIGH liklihood for extension

Compensation: $60/HR-$75/HR based on experience

Position Overview: The SCADA Field Service Engineer will work remotely, with 80%-90% travel, on behalf of a leading renewable energy developer. This role involves developing and commissioning SCADA software and hardware to control renewable power plants.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Commission SCADA equipment for photovoltaic and energy storage systems.
  • Manage project requirements, integration, commissioning, startup, and testing of SCADA systems.
  • Collaborate with in-house resources and suppliers to determine project priorities and schedules.
  • Review engineering drawings and OEM specifications to ensure compliance with design standards.
  • Report progress to upper management regularly.

Need to Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/automation or equivalent experience in SCADA for renewable power plants.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in configuring and commissioning SCADA equipment.
  • Knowledge of process control commissioning, AC and DC circuits, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to understand electrical and SCADA schematics and drawings.
  • Knowledge of automation protocols (Modbus, DNP3, CAN, OPC, EtherNet/IP, etc.).
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.

Nice to Have:
  • Knowledge of Ignition, OPC Servers, and SCADA historian.
  • Experience with managed switches (Hirschman's, MOXA, Cisco).
  • Understanding of NERC compliance from the SCADA perspective.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to interface with other project stakeholders as required.
