Overview
Microsoft Azure Storage is a foundational service in the Azure cloud ecosystem, providing massively scalable, highly available, and secure storage solutions for millions of customers worldwide. From hosting data for some of the largest enterprises to powering Microsoft's own online services, Azure Storage is at the heart of the cloud revolution.
Our team is responsible for the performance of Azure Storage APIs-primarily Blob, and also Queue and Table-ensuring customers experience industry-leading throughput and reliability at the lowest possible cost. We focus on performance optimization and COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) improvements, designing and implementing solutions that maximize resource efficiency while delivering hyperscale performance. This includes deep work on API design, low-level optimizations, and distributed systems engineering to serve customer requests with minimal resource utilization.
As a Software Engineer II - Azure Core you will work on the next generation of storage performance capabilities, collaborating with a talented team to solve complex engineering challenges at global scale. You will have the opportunity to influence the architecture of critical components, optimize performance across diverse workloads, and innovate on cost-efficiency strategies that impact millions of customers. Required Qualifications:
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders to determine requirements for new features and performance improvements.
- Design and implement highly performant and massively scalable storage services.
- Own software components and drive component-level design decisions in collaboration with senior engineers and architects.
- Create and implement code for products, services, or features, reusing code where applicable.
- Write extensible and maintainable code with a focus on diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Participate in on-call rotations to monitor and maintain service health.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, adaptation, and growth.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
