We are currently looking for a Failure Analysis Engineer to support our customers within the Strategic Microelectronics Division at Naval Surface Warfare Center - Crane.

As a Failure Analysis Engineer, you will be responsible for investigation and identification of failures in semiconductor devices. You will use a variety of tools and techniques including electrical measurement, photon emission microscopy, CT X-ray analysis, FIB/SEM imaging, and EDS elemental analysis, to locate the failure site, identify the cause of failure, and make corrective action recommendations. The analysis results, conclusions, and recommendations will be incorporated into a failure analysis report.

Minimum Requirements
  • BS Engineering or Physics degree with some electronics background (Materials or Mechanical degrees considered with strong electronics background)
  • 0-1 years of relevant experience required
  • Strong/demonstrated technical problem solving background
  • Communication (verbal/written) of complex technical information to decision makers at all levels of an organization
  • Successful execution of high consequence tasking
  • Handling and manipulation of electronic components without inducing damage
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to apply existing knowledge and skills in learning new subject matter
  • Ability to rapidly learn outside of a formal training framework
  • Ability to learn and apply principles from electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, physics, and chemistry
  • Ability to deduce expected in-circuit device operation by applying circuit analysis techniques Digital & Analog
  • Ability to understand expected stand-alone device operation from review of published data-sheets
  • Understanding of electronic components and systems which includes:
    • Circuit analysis techniques
    • Electric & Magnetic field theory & application
    • Basic knowledge of semiconductor physics and fabrication
    • Basic knowledge of electronic device construction and potential failure mechanisms
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance (Please note: ship is required to obtain a Secret clearance)

  • Basic knowledge of common analysis tools:
    • Analog/Digital Curve Tracers

  • Ability/Desire to learn advanced analysis tools:
    • Infrared Microscopy (IR)

    • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
    • Focused Ion Beam Microscopy (FIB)
