Job Details
Job Title: Phlebotomist II
Duration: 3 Months
Location: USA - NY - Albany - 1375 Washington Avenue
Training could be at a different location.
Shift: Mon-Fri 9 AM-5.30PM every other Sat 7-11 AM EST
Vaccines required:
- Vaccines required: Tb, Hep B, candidate can decline Hep b series. Color vision required
- Hard sticks and needles
- Pediatrics, Geriatric experience needed
Summary
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
- Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
- Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
- Demonstrates technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
- Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
- Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% correctness.
- Packages specimens for transport.
- Stores specimen samples according to the required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
- Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attends annual department trainings.
- Answers telephone calls, reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of experience.
