Description

We are looking for an experienced Security Compliance Consultant to join our team on a long-term contract basis in Columbia, South Carolina. This role is essential for supporting compliance efforts related to Department of Defense (DoD) research initiatives, with a strong emphasis on security architecture and governance in a Microsoft 365 cloud environment. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in cybersecurity, compliance frameworks, and strategic implementation to ensure alignment between technical controls and institutional objectives.

Responsibilities:

Oversee compliance initiatives related to CMMC Department of Defense (DoD) requirements, performing gap analyses and developing remediation strategies.

Conduct security architecture reviews and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and recommend solutions.

Implement and manage access controls, identity management, and data protection measures in alignment with compliance standards.

Provide expert guidance on secure system design, including cloud and on-premises environments.

Support transitions in network infrastructure, including migrations from Palo Alto to Fortinet firewalls.

Assess and enhance security configurations within Microsoft 365, focusing on identity management and role-based access control.

Develop and maintain comprehensive security documentation, including policies, procedures, and System Security Plans (SSPs).

Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to translate compliance requirements into actionable technical solutions.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders across technical and non-technical domains, ensuring clarity and alignment.

Support leadership in decision-making processes related to security and compliance strategies.

Requirements

Proven experience with CMMC Department of Defense (DoD) compliance frameworks and cybersecurity standards.

Experience with Zscaler, Palo Alto, and Fortinet network architecture.

Experience with Linux-based systems and high performance computing (HPC) environments.

Hands-on expertise in Microsoft 365 environments, including cloud security and identity management.

Experience with Microsoft Purview or similar data governance tools.

Extensive knowledge of security architecture and infrastructure security principles.

Strong understanding of networking concepts, including firewall technologies such as Palo Alto and Fortinet.

Demonstrated ability to create and maintain detailed compliance and security documentation.

Strategic thinking skills to balance technical depth with broader business objectives.

Familiarity with higher education or research environments is preferred.

Prior experience working in hybrid security environments or consulting roles is advantageous.
