JOB OVERVIEW


We are seeking a Powerplant Electrical Engineer to support operations at the Cherokee Generating Station in Denver, CO. This is a hands-on, on-site role offering a 6-month contract with a potential for extension or full-time conversion. The ideal candidate will bring both electrical engineering expertise and direct experience working within a power plant environment.



Key Responsibilities



  • Provide electrical engineering support for plant operations, including system reliability improvements and root cause failure analysis.

  • Evaluate the condition and reliability of electrical systems and components, including motors, transformers, pumps, and control systems.

  • Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to plan and implement preventive and corrective maintenance strategies.

  • Support capital project submissions and long-term equipment upgrade planning.

  • Contribute to performance monitoring and system optimization projects across various plant units.



Sample Projects May Include:



  • Reviewing spare parts strategies and failure risks for critical systems like generator diodes and CEMS analyzers.

  • Assessing and optimizing reliability of ammonia and phosphate feed systems.

  • Supporting outage planning through evaluation of components such as bearing oil systems and solenoid valves.

  • Performing transformer, breaker, and relay testing, reviewing plant drawings, and contributing to electrical system design updates.

  • Evaluating electrical load additions and updating plant substation alarms and voltage settings.



Qualifications



  • Required: Electrical engineering experience in a power plant setting - this is essential and non-negotiable.

  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, on-site environment.

  • Able to support both short-term troubleshooting and long-term system reliability initiatives.

  • Open to candidates with varying levels of experience who meet the power plant requirement.
