Position: Support and Network Engineer
Location: Glencoe, IL 60022 Onsite job
Duration: 3 months (512 hours)

PART TIME - 20 hours in week


Job Purpose
The IT Infrastructure and Support Engineer maintains the Village s information technology systems and operations, by providing user support, conducting and coordinating user training, assisting the Technology and Strategy Manager with IT budget development and making recommendations for technology improvements. The IT Infrastructure and Support Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the Village s technology assets are functional and secure to support the Village s business operations and seeks proactive feedback from users and leadership in all departments to understand current and emerging IT support needs. The IT Infrastructure and Support Engineer maintains strong working relationships with departments to regularly dialogue about operational needs and technology solutions, and models exceptional customer service.


Essential Functions

Performs support work, communicates with users regarding technology needs and partners with departments to implement solutions

Serves as the network/systems administrator for the Village

Plans, procures, installs, configures and deploys firewalls, IT hardware, software, voice and data systems and virtual private network

Assists with maintenance of an IT organization plan, a security plan and a disaster recovery plan, taking into account changes in technology assets and potential threats; conducts testing and training to support security and disaster recovery plans

Protects data from breaches through planning and adherence to a backup plan, installation and maintenance of network security devices; conducts network monitoring; researches and develops security policies, conducts user training to promote security

Assists with development and implementation of long-range technology improvement projects, including development of the IT operating budget and capital budget; procures technology assets and services in accordance with the Village s purchasing procedures

Manages the Village s device replacement program, maintains inventory of devices issued to users and

replacement schedules and upgrades

Assists with development of IT use policies and procedures in line with industry best practices

Creates and maintains network documentation

Provides and models outstanding customer service in person and over the telephone

Develops and produces statistical reports to be used for decision-making purposes

Responds to after-hours emergencies as needed and attends evening meetings as required

Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer science, information technology or related field

Related Work Experience: One to three years or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Professional Certifications or Licenses: Microsoft certification


Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Maintains qualifications required to obtain and maintain credentials to access and support law enforcement technology assets
Strong knowledge of network management, Microsoft technology, Hyper-V environment, Ubiquiti and Cisco technology and infrastructure in a LAN WAN environment, Ubiquity and Cisco VOIP unified communication systems VMware environment, best practices in security and Criminal Justice
Information System compliance requirements
Familiarity with wireless networking technologies and experience with IEEE, EI/TIA cabling standards
Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to adapt communication style to audience/situation and to explain complicated technical matters to individuals with or without technical knowledge
Strong project management skills
Ability to work independently and in teams, and to supervise staff or contractors
Creative, solutions-oriented thinking
Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy, listening, appreciation for divergent views and ability to develop excellent working relationships with coworkers and members of the community
