Overview

As a member of the IT Infrastructure team, the Senior Systems Administrator is a role that requires hands-on expertise, independent action and active mentorship. This role reports to the Assistant Infrastructure Manager and provides tactical guidance for the support and maintenance of all computer, storage and backup environments. This means ensuring high availability, performance, and security for IT infrastructure while proactively monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues that arise or which are escalated from other teams. Additionally, the Senior Systems Administrator will lead and/or participate in projects related to system upgrades, migrations and deployments involving one or more teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for technical issues and challenges.
  • Contribute to and enforce best practices for system security, performance, and reliability.
  • Perform a number of business-critical technical functions including but not limited to: Windows server administration, Data Center maintenance and management, configuration and management of observability tools, patching and vulnerability management, incident response and resolution, documentation and reporting, and security compliance.
  • Coordinate, collaborate and execute on projects within the Systems Administration domain.
  • Mentor and coach junior and mid-level team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for adoption based on business needs and industry trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Will accept equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems administration roles, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership position.
  • Relevant certifications such as MCSE, VCP, CompTIA Security+, etc. are desired.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Windows operating system, with bonus points for Linux as well.
  • Strong experience with enterprise-level infrastructure technologies, including virtualization, storage, and networking.
  • Strong experience implementing solutions that support High Availability, Data Center Resiliency, and Business Continuity.
  • Familiarity with the following tools and technologies strongly preferred: Windows Server, Azure, Exchange/M365, Cohesity, PureStorage, VMware ESXi, LogicMonitor, Ivanti Service Manager
  • Proven track record of leading complex IT projects from conception to completion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
