This is an unpaid fellowship through the Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge Program. The fellow selected for this role will not receive compensation or benefits from GDIT and will not be an employee, agent or contractor of GDIT but rather will remain an employee of the DoD and will receive compensation and benefits through the DoD.

Job Description:

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is offering a SkillBridge opportunity for a Senior Systems Administrator Fellow with experience in Microsoft Enterprise Systems Administration. This role supports a Federal Intelligence Agency contract and provides transitioning service members with hands-on experience in a large-scale, hybrid IT environment.

During the fellowship, participants will gain exposure to enterprise infrastructure operations spanning both CONUS and OCONUS environments, working alongside experienced GDIT professionals in both Windows and RHEL (Linux) environments across multiple security enclaves.

HOW A SENIOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR FELLOW WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
  • Perform system administration for Windows and Linux systems (physical and EVDI).
  • Troubleshoot system/application performance and crashes.
  • Investigate and resolve user performance issues in collaboration with other teams.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for Linux and Windows-based applications.
  • Offer remote end-user desktop support.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve system incidents-implementing both short-term workarounds and long-term solutions.
  • Respond to escalated incidents and service requests from the service desk.
  • Clearly communicate (written and verbal) with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Participate in special projects and incident triage/notifications as needed.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED AS A SENIOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR FELLOW:

Required Qualifications:
  • 4-7 years of experience in a related IT systems administration role.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Active Directory Administration
    • DNS, DHCP, DFS, LDAP
    • Windows OS (Windows 10, Server 2012/2016)
    • Linux operating systems
    • Troubleshooting enterprise applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Java, Internet Explorer)
  • Experience with:
    • ServiceNow, NETS, or similar ticketing systems
    • ITIL v3 or higher frameworks
  • Certification (Day 1 Requirement): IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE)
  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen

Preferred/Desired Experience:
  • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Virtualization environments (VMware, Citrix)
  • Profile management using VMware User Environment Manager (UEM)
  • Microsoft Exchange administration
  • Telephone/video teleconferencing support
  • Basic networking fundamentals
  • Familiarity with customer-specific environments and mission requirements

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.
