Apex Systems is seeking a Senior Linux/Unix Systems Administrator to join one of our top govermnet clients team. This role is a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity with a clear path to full-time employment. Senior Linux Systems Administrator

What You'll Do
- Administer and support Linux servers and workstations (RHEL 8/9)
- Automate deployments and system imaging (Kickstart, Ansible)
- Implement DISA STIGs and maintain configuration-managed environments
- Set up and manage PKI, encryption, and digital certificates
- Partner with engineers to solve computationally intensive challenges
- Support software installs, license management, backups, and recovery
- Configure storage, file systems, permissions, and network services (DNS, SMTP, SSH, NTP)
- Manage users, groups, authentication, and security (firewalls, SELinux)
- Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and deliver utilization reports
- Use shell scripting to automate system maintenance
- Minimum of 6-8+ years of Linux system administration experience
- Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED equivalent is required, Bachelor's Degree is highly preferred
- Must hold an Active DoD Clearance, Top Secret is highly preferred
- Strong skills in RHEL 8/9 troubleshooting and TCP/IP networking fundamentals
- Experience with DISA STIGs, Evaluate-STIG, STIG-Manager
- Knowledge of Tenable tools (Security Center, Nessus) a plus
- Familiarity with Red Hat Satellite, Ansible Tower/AWX, Splunk, DNS, SMTP
- Bonus: RHSSO, VMware vSphere/vCenter, ServiceNow
- Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II (Security+) required
- Ability to thrive in fast-changing environments and manage multiple priorities
- Work on cutting-edge RDT&E projects that directly support national defense
