Database Administrator Advanced (Natural/Adabas)
Contract Length: 12 months (with strong possibility of multi-year extension; project estimated at 8 years)
Work Location: Remote (must be onsite in Columbia, SC for the first 5 business days at own expense; then remote within the U.S.)
Type: W2 Contract
Required Skills (must be clearly shown in resume bullets)
- 8+ years of hands on experience administering Software AG Adabas databases and Natural Security in production environments
- Strong knowledge of CONNX or comparable Adabas data access tools (installation, configuration, user enablement)
- Proficiency with environment refreshes, backup/restore procedures, performance tuning, and scripting (e.g., Natural utilities)
- Demonstrated experience with role based access control, security reviews, and audit documentation in regulated environments
- Familiarity with SDLC/change control across dev/test/prod and maintaining a formal data dictionary
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to write user guides and support analysts/business users
- Experience with broader Software AG tools (e.g., NaturalONE, Predict, EntireX) and DDM management best practices
- Preferred Skills (should also be shown in resume bullets if applicable)
- Exposure to capacity planning, platform modernization, and performance engineering
- Participation in business continuity/disaster recovery (BC/DR) program development and exercises
- Experience with Linux/open systems environments
Role Overview
The Database Administrator will own and optimize the Software AG ecosystem-primarily Adabas and Natural Security-with a focus on reliability, security, performance, and user enablement.
Responsibilities include:
- Administering Adabas & Natural Security (plus CONNX) across production, test, and development environments
- Performing and monitoring nightly backups; refreshing lower environments from production data
- Configuring and maintaining security/authorization, executing audits, and processing security requests
- Supporting data access and analytics by maintaining query tools, user data catalogs, and training materials
- Guiding schema/file modifications through dev/test/prod and maintaining the data dictionary
- Researching and implementing platform upgrades and performance improvements
- Participating in business continuity and disaster recovery planning/testing
