The Senior Android Engineer will work with a team of mobile developers to design, implement, and maintain high-quality Android applications that meet business and customer needs. The Senior Engineer will focus on creating scalable, maintainable, and secure mobile solutions that enhance customer experiences within T-Mobile's flagship app ecosystem. This role requires a deep understanding of Android development, including modern architecture patterns, testing strategies, performance optimization, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, leadership, and a passion for continuous learning to drive impactful solutions.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain Android applications using modern architecture patterns such as MVVM or MVI.
  • Perform code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable, and secure code, while mentoring junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, QA, and Backend engineers to deliver seamless experiences.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, building, and deployment.
  • Ensure performance optimization and stability of Android applications, addressing any critical bugs or crashes.
  • Build and maintain modular, reusable components to streamline app development and improve code maintainability.
  • Integrate third-party SDKs and APIs, ensuring secure and efficient interactions.
  • Implement and enhance analytics tracking to monitor user behavior and app performance.
  • Stay current with Android platform updates and industry best practices, proposing innovative solutions to improve the app's architecture and performance.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for refactoring and improving the codebase to increase efficiency and maintainability.
  • Collaborate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, retrospectives, and stand-ups to ensure smooth delivery of features.
  • Continuously learn new technologies and advocate for best practices within the team.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, ensuring knowledge is shared across the team.

Work Experience:
  • 5+ years of Android development experience using Kotlin and Java (Required)
  • 2+ years experience with Jetpack Compose (Preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience integrating REST APIs and working with backend services (Required)
  • Experience with Google Play Store release processes, versioning, and app signing (Required)
  • Experience with code integrated CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Bitrise

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of Android SDK, architecture components, and lifecycle management
  • Experience with modular app architecture and feature flagging
  • Familiar with Kotlin coroutines and asynchronous programming
  • Knowledge of testing strategies including unit tests, UI tests, and instrumented tests using tools such as JUnit, Espresso, or MockK
  • Ability to identify and fix performance bottlenecks, including memory leaks and inefficient resource usage
  • Strong knowledge of analytics integration to track user behavior and improve app functionality
  • Understanding of security best practices for Android, including secure data storage, permissions management, and API authentication
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex issues efficiently
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present ideas clearly

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (Preferred)

  • Continuously seeks opportunities to improve processes and refactor code for better maintainability and performance.
  • Proactively mentors junior developers and shares knowledge to build a stronger team.

Base Pay Range: $113,600 - $205,000

Corporate Bonus Target: 15%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year.
