Job Details
- 1-2 year contract
We are seeking a proficient OpenVMS Administrator Contractor to support a key U.S. public sector client located in New York City. This role involves managing and maintaining virtual machine systems using technologies such as C++, C, DECforms, ACMS, and Oracle Rdb, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of critical applications.
System Information:
- Platforms: OpenVMS 8.3-1H1 (HP Integrity), OpenVMS 8.3 (Alpha), OpenVMS 8.4 (Alpha)
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in systems administration managing and supporting OpenVMS platforms
- Proven experience with Alpha and HP Integrity hardware platform administration
- Strong knowledge of C, C++, DECforms, ACMS, and Oracle Rdb
- Strong understanding of system backup and recovery techniques
- Hands-on experience with OpenVMS migrations and upgrades
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and independently manage tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proven experience in managing applications and Server, storage etc ( C language and Oracle DB on OpenVMS )
- Strong understanding of database design, optimization, and performance tuning.
- Proficiency in DECforms, ACMS, and Oracle Rdb.
- Administer and maintain complex OpenVMS environments (including Alpha platforms) in production and pre-production settings
- Conduct system testing, validation, and performance tuning prior to production deployment
- Plan and execute migrations and upgrades of OpenVMS systems
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions in a timely manner
- Provide daily user support to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth operation of systems.
- Conduct troubleshooting and perform root cause analysis to address system-related issues promptly.
- Monitor and tune database performance to ensure optimal operation.
- Analyze and modify database storage configurations, indexes, and transaction paths to enhance access strategies and reduce fragmentation.
- Implement monitoring tools to track system performance and health, including CPU utilization, memory usage, and disk space.
- Generate reports to inform decision-making processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Develop new documentation and regularly update existing materials to reflect system changes and improvements.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance system performance.
- Ensure systems are compliant with security standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular security reviews and audits to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
