Location : Alameda, CA
Duration : Long-Term Contract
Job Description :
We are seeking a highly experienced AWS EKS Lead Consultant to lead end-to-end cloud native platform design and DevOps automation using Kubernetes and AWS.
The ideal candidate will combine technical excellence in cloud infrastructure with leadership, strategic thinking, and hands-on DevOps experience in enterprise-grade environments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. EKS & Cloud Infrastructure:
Design, deploy, and manage AWS EKS clusters with production-grade configurations (HA, node groups, auto-scaling, IRSA).
Ensure secure, scalable, and cost-effective Kubernetes deployments across environments (dev, QA, staging, prod).
Implement multi-region/multi-AZ deployments with automated backup and disaster recovery strategies.
2. DevOps Strategy & Automation:
Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, or GitHub Actions.
Automate application delivery pipelines using GitOps practices (ArgoCD/FluxCD).
Manage secrets, config, and service discovery using tools like HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, and Consul.
3. Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
Lead the definition and enforcement of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform (Terraform Cloud/Enterprise preferred).
Implement reusable, modular Terraform modules and maintain state across AWS environments using remote backends.
4. Monitoring, Logging & Observability:
Set up observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, EFK/ELK, AWS CloudWatch, X Ray).
Define and track SLOs, SLAs, and error budgets.
Implement proactive alerting and health checks for applications and infrastructure.
5. Security, Governance & Compliance:
Enforce security best practices (VPC, IAM, SCPs, KMS, Security Hub, GuardDuty, etc.).
Implement Kubernetes RBAC, network policies (Calico/Cilium), and container image scanning (Trivy/Aqua/Prisma).
Support compliance frameworks (SOC2, HIPAA, GDPR, etc.).
6. Cost Optimization & FinOps:
Monitor AWS usage and provide recommendations for cost reduction (RI/SP, auto scaling, rightsizing).
Implement cost dashboards and alerts using tools like CloudHealth, AWS Budgets, or CloudZero.
7. Team Collaboration & Leadership:
Lead technical workshops and architectural reviews.
Mentor DevOps and SRE team members, conducting code reviews and improving team velocity.
Drive continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience: 8+ years in DevOps/SRE roles, with at least 5 years in AWS and Kubernetes (EKS) environments.
Cloud Expertise: Proficiency in core AWS services (EC2, VPC, ELB, RDS, IAM, S3, CloudFormation, Lambda).
Containerization: Deep understanding of Docker, container lifecycle, and Kubernetes internals.
IaC & Scripting: Advanced skills in Terraform, with scripting knowledge in Python, Bash, or Go.
CI/CD Tools: Experience with Jenkins, GitLab, ArgoCD, CircleCI, etc. Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications: AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, CKA/CKAD, or Terraform Associate.
Tools Exposure: Experience with Helm, Kustomize, Ansible, Service Meshes (Istio/Linkerd), etc.
